Testo Hounds

too much pressure made the diamond black
it’s been too long since laughing like my ribs would crack
i put up a good fight
went out for late nights
with some girls I barely know
i shot the liquor
and kissed a stranger
but I cried in the car home

the grass was greener till the drought set in
freedom tasted so sweet till it dripped off my chin
i took a long walk
listened to Kate talk
about Canada in June
she’s been there a whole year
i’m frozen right here
in bed till the afternoon

there’s hounds at the gate
and wolves by the door
but my mothers in the kitchen
just like all the years before
there’s ice on the window
and winters awfully long
but my sisters in a good mood
and we’re finally getting on
we’re finally getting on

all that glitters is not always gold
a shiny new thing is cute until it gets old
drove a mile for a woman who reads auras
she said I need to have more fun
i cried in her office and then felt nauseous
at least mine’s yellow like the sun

and oh I’m trying
please know
oh I’m trying

there’s hounds at the gate
and wolves by the door
but my mothers in the kitchen
just like all the years before
there’s ice on the window
but winters nearly through
so if this lasts past December
i guess I’ve got work to do
i’ve got some work to do
