I drove her to the airport it was no coincidence between arrivals and departures our moment came and went like a promise that's not spoken but one you know is true no one said things were different no one needed to She said, "I'll always love you" She said, "Thick and thin" She said, "Forever", but I knew we would never meet again Once up in Great Neck Long Island in the cold November morning sun there were two hearts standing at the station waiting for their train to come Under the big clock on the platform I took this picture of her there She was looking down the tracks we thought we were going somewhere She said, "I'll always love you" She said, "Thick and thin" She said, "Forever", but I knew we would never meet again I've never fallen in love I've always been dragged in somehow but I've got these things that she left me with I can't get free of them now Now I'm on some freeway under the merciless moonlight the radio is turned up loud I'm thinking about her tonight whatever life she's living wherever she might be someday she will be driving someday she'll think of me She said, "I'll always love you" She said, "Thick and thin" She said, "Forever", but I knew we would never meet again
